Find Your Landlord

Many landlords hide behind mysterious LLCs to avoid accountability. To find your landlord, follow these steps:

1. Search your building address on the Cook County Assessor’s site.

2. Grab the building PIN.

3. Go to the Cook County Clerk’s site, and run a search using the PIN.

4. Click “View” in the search results next to your building’s address.

5. Under “Doc Type,” look for the mortgage.

6. Toward the end of the mortgage, there will be a signature for the grantor. This is your landlord.

Once you know your landlord’s name, you can use the Illinois Secretary of State website to find other LLCs (i.e. buildings) owned by the same landlord.
