On the Edge of Eviction: Operation Midway Blitz Pushes Chicago Tenants to the Brink

On September 8, 2025, ICE agents descended on Chicagoland, and unleashed a wave of terror. These degenerates spent the following weeks ambushing our neighbors, targeting day cares, apartment buildings and schools. They violently wrestled residents our neighbors into unmarked cars, detaining more than 3,700 people over the ensuing two months.

These raids have not only caused irreparable damage to communities and families, but have triggered an acute economic and housing crisis, driving vulnerable immigrant tenants to self-deport for fear of detention.

In collaboration with Los Angeles based tenant organization, The Rent Brigade and Palenque LSNA, BSTA worked to document the ongoing impact of the ICE Raids under Operation Midway Blitz. The findings were appalling. Many tenants are succumbing to rental debt as they forgo work out of fear of abduction, cutting off the income they rely on to remain housed.

Chicago is a city built by working-class immigrants, who are central to its cultural, social, and economic life. Tenants should not be punished by the prospect of eviction because of the cruelty and brutality of the Trump Administration
